SASP 2008: CALL FOR PRESENTATION PROPOSALS

SASP Convention Affairs announces the “Call for Proposals” for the 2008 SASP mini-convention, which will be held during the 116th annual APA Convention, August 14 – 17, 2008 in Boston, MA. Convention activities this year will include an address by our keynote speaker, student paper and poster presentations, and various networking opportunities. All SASP members and graduate students in school psychology are eligible to submit presentation proposals.

Paper or poster proposals will be considered for presentation at the mini-convention if they are received by April 15, 2008. Selected presenters will receive travel assistance to attend the APA Convention.

TYPES OF PROPOSALS

Students may submit proposals for paper or poster presentations. Submissions may reflect empirical research or theoretical arguments, but should have clear applications/ implications for the practice of (or training in) school psychology. The following are descriptions of each type of session that may be held at the convention.

Paper Presentations:
Paper presentations afford students an opportunity to discuss their research in a casual, supportive, and small group atmosphere. Sessions typically range from 45 minutes to one hour in length; specific time allotments will be determined in collaboration with individual presenters. One or two students are generally selected to present their work in this format, depending on the number and quality of proposals received.

Poster Presentations:

Poster sessions allow presenters and attendees to engage in extended discussions regarding the author’s work, which is in illustrated format on a poster board. Sessions generally range from 45 minutes to one hour in length, depending upon the number of submissions received and the length of time scheduled for the mini-convention. For those submissions accepted for presentation in a poster session, SASP will send detailed instructions to assist presenters in preparing materials in the required format.
